Gosh, you look familiar!

Apparently I was attracted  to this fabric prior to “discovering” it over the weekend during our downtown adventures.  About a week ago, I was clicking around Tumblr when I saw this picture on a blog I follow. Of course, I re-blogged it immediately for my love of ikat, but it wasn’t until I was going back to look at my old posts did I make the connection!  Well, hello beautiful! Aren’t you a fancy tablecloth?  More importantly, won’t you just make a beautiful headboard?  Even more importantly,  you look wonderful coordinated with chevron stripes.  Yes, yes…this only confirms the fact that I must have this fabric!

Ah yes,  I do believe this will be my Christmas gift to myself. Or, the pat on the back I’ll give myself once I get through this semester. Gone are the days where celebratory gifts are handbags, and shoes. Now, its fabric and paint cans.  However,  it’s completely worth it because I am so ready for a bedroom transformation.   It’ll just be a while.

Decorations, Phase One.

The best part of Thanksgiving is the fact that it leads into Christmas.  Our mission this weekend was to begin the epic journey that is Christmas-ifying our house.    Generally, it takes us a little time to get the decorations up and running because there are stages involved.   You see,  I’m a big proponent of “funky” trees, so naturally I was a big fan of the white artificial tree.  But Andrew is more traditional, and prefers the green  trees.  Why not get both?  But then both turned into four different Christmas trees.  You read that right.  Four!  When we bought our home, we closed on December 22 which meant we really didn’t have a lot of time to decorate.   Nor did we have the furniture to put the decorations on!  With that being said, I had bought a cheap-o LED small tree, and my mom bought us a cute outdoor tree.  Well,  after we moved in, we realized we didn’t have an outdoor outlet thus meaning cute outdoor tree is now cute indoor tree.  And there is no way we couldn’t put out our first tree!  There ya have it,  four trees!

Like I mentioned above,  we don’t have an outdoor outlet.  In the 2 years that we’ve lived here,  we haven’t quite figured out what we can/will do about it.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s completely necessary so I can decorate properly and obnoxiously for every holiday…but we just haven’t gotten there yet.   My goal is by next Christmas we will have it figured out, because even Andrew is itching to throw some lights on the front of the house.   Despite our lack of outlet,  we still get down with the Christmas lights.   Thankfully, we’ve got  two huge windows facing the street on the front of the house, so we are able to hang icicle lights inside that way the neighborhood can enjoy.   Plus, it looks absolutely stunning.

Last year, we got a little crazy and decided to hang icicle lights off of all four walls in our living room.  It made the room the happiest place on earth (sorry Disney!).  I am crossing my fingers that Andrew will be doing that again this year.  Wink wink, nudge nudge.  The best way to get in the holiday spirit if you’re a little grinchy this year?  Hang Christmas lights EVERYWHERE!

(Andrew thinks he’s Swedish, so the ornaments go by our “Swedish names”)

Alas,  phase one is done!  Now we must plan our attack for phrase  two.  Move, move, move!

Downtown

Andrew and I decided to take a walk downtown yesterday to enjoy some of the beautiful weather we’ve been having.  It’s not cold yet, but the wind has been keeping it brisk.  Don’t worry though,  I’m counting down til Florida’s winter season, whenever that will be.   I’m very much looking forward to wearing my green pea-coat and boots again.   It’s this time of year where I realize that I’m meant for a northern state, because I think I would much prefer snow over sand.  Sand just gets everywhere and feels so gritty.    Blah, Florida.   Anyway, back to the actual purpose of this post…

In our travels downtown,  we made a point to stop by Lafayette and Rushford, which is a beautiful interior design shop.  For the holidays,  the store was packed to the brim with Christmas decorations and themed trees.  The storefront was absolutely stunning.  I probably walked the store at least five times to take it all in.  During our time spent there,  I had a chance to chit chat with the owner, Linda. Who, of course, was dressed to the nines and looking completely fabulous and I was standing in her amazing shop after walking there and probably smelling earthy.  Isn’t that always the way it goes?    There was just so much inspiration for design in this shop, and you could tell Linda was the driving force behind it.  I’m hoping after the holidays, when the wallet bounces back, I’ll be able to go back and pick up a few things I made a mental list of.

Here are a few photos from their website, so you can see how gorgeous the products are.  Check out their website too, you will not be disappointed.

After we left L&F,  we made our way over to The Feathered Nest.  Much to my surprise,  it was a shop as well as design studio. Even more to my surprise,  my eyes did land upon the perfect fabric for the headboard when it comes time to re-do our bedroom.  (Andrew is currently rolling his eyes at the prospect of more work).  Please enjoy fab fabric below.

Love love love it.  Love it even more because it’ll match the Jonathan Adler accent pillows my mom bought us a while back.  Poor things have been hanging out in the closet waiting for their big reveal.  One of these days….

All in all, it was a great day filled with ideas I hope to use in the house.  Now, I just need to get through the next 5 work days so I can have my happy weekend face on again.  Same goes for Andrew too, who is currently sitting on the couch watching Walking Dead and “doing homework”.

P.S –  On our walk downtown, we stumbled across Benny loungin’ in the front yard of his actual home, only one street away. He ran over to us and rubbed up against our legs.  What a cutie!
