West Elm meets Z Gallerie

Four glorious days off from work and school means you get to see a decor board!  I call this one West Elm meets Z Gallerie. I love the look of the striped chair against the rustic console table.  There is nothing better than the juxtaposition of rustic and chic. In pulling this together,  I tried to pick pieces that had the same wood grain.  In doing so, you get a heavy feel, but adding a light patterned area rug will brighten up the space. I think it would make a beautiful living room, in the right home. And of course,  a fat wallet helps too!

Weird Obsession with Cleaning Supplies

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I’m not the only person who appreciates a really good clean?  More so, I appreciate a really good clean with only using a few products.  There is nothing more frustrating than having a certain spray, or powder for a specific task.  With that being said,  I present to you my two favorite cleaning supplies on the planet.

This bottle is highly concentrated, so all you have to do is mix it in a spray bottle with water and you are on your way to a peppermint scented clean.   But you can use it for wash your dishes, do your laundry (although, I don’t know how it fares in front loaders.  Haven’t tried that yet), and basically wash any surface.   It cuts through kitchen grease and grime in a snap!   That alone makes me the happiest girl on the planet because I really don’t know when Andrew does in the kitchen (I totally can’t cook), but he gets stuff EVERYWHERE.  It’s like he takes a handful of grease and starts fist pumping.   But he feeds me, so I can’t really complain too much.

Next on the list is J.R Watkin’s All Purpose Cleaner.

Finding this product while roaming Target was revolutionary for me.  Not only does their au naturel all-purpose spray smell like candy, but it also leaves a streak free shine to mirrors and glass!   Yes!  No longer do I always have to keep Windex on hand.   When you’re trying to live a clutter free existence, it’s really hard when your cleaning supplies are taking over the cabinets underneath the sink.    Having the option of not buying a product just for windows and glass is great. But finding my go-to cleaning product for the everyday clean up is even better.

Now, I need to stop talking about cleaning and actually do some.  :-)

You know when…

You’re a DIY geek when you wake up at 7 a.m.  on your day off to start refinishing a chest of drawers.  Personally,  I think sanding, wood filling, sanding, wiping down, unscrewing, wood gluing, and priming is way better than chopping, peeling and roasting on this Thanksgiving Day.  What I am currently thankful for is the fact that I currently have this luxury since all I have to do today is show up at a family members house with a bundt cake at 5 o’clock. Not too shabby, right?

If I can keep up any semblance of momentum today,  I hope  to get two coats of primer on the chest today.  But that is hard to do when you’re distracted by the cutie outdoor cat that is  turning into an adopted member of the family.

Meet Benedict,  Benny for short. He’s an outdoor cat that belongs to someone, although, we haven’t quite figured out who the owners are just yet.   He may be the sweetest cat on the planet (Sorry Columbia, we still love you more!) , and has the greatest disposition. He loves being held, and sleeping in our laps.   Definitely not your average outdoor feral cat.  Clearly in the picture above,  he wants to come inside.   He has managed to run in the house just once on a day I was bringing in laundry from the garage. A fairly traumatizing experience for all parties involved.  He made it into the house, booked it to the living room with Columbia following, hissing like a freak.  She was not a happy camper at all about our little intruder. Once Benny realized “Heck no! I’m not staying here” , he ran to the same door he came in from, looked at me like I was taking an eternity to let him out and bolted. Columbia has never been the same since. Clearly, they are not meant to be brother and sister.  But that won’t stop me from referring to him as my adopted son.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving to all!  Enjoy the day, and don’t throw up!

P.S – We don’t actually know if the cat has a name,  but we thought Benedict was appropriate.  Leave it to me to name it after a Shakespeare character.
