Conditionally Accepted

Okay, guys…I come baring good news!  I know a lot of my posts lately have been related to NUHS and applying for the Chiropractic Medicine program. For good reason though, because it is something I am really excited about as well as passionate about. Well, I finally heard back from admissions and….

I got my conditional acceptance!

Victory is mine!

So what does conditional acceptance mean?  Well, it means that my transcripts as of right now, as well as my GPA are good enough for enrollment.  However, I am missing science prerequisites that need to be taken in order for me to get my official acceptance.

Here is a breakdown of how it works:

  1. I need to first complete 12 semester hours of my prerequisites.
  2. Once that is completed, I submit the updated transcript to the committee.
  3. They will review again to make sure I kept my GPA over a 3.0.
  4. I get my official letter of acceptance in the mail.
  5. Complete the rest of the science classes
  6. Being NUHS the fall of 2015.

Why 2015?  Well, I still need to finish my Bachelor’s degree which I am set to graduate this December.  In the state of Florida, even if you have your DC, you cannot practice Chiropractic Medicine without a Bachelor’s Degree.  So this is something I cannot overlook, and must complete prior to formally enrolling in the DC program.  2015 is also the latest possible time frame of being completed with my science classes.  I can always move that early if I need to, but I gave myself the most time to complete them to ensure I don’t overload myself with studying as well as work.

Class Breakdown:

classschedule

Ah yes, I’ve got quite the list of classes in my future.

In two weeks, I’ll begin the Summer semester of which I am taking my last elective for my business degree (!!!), and then I’ll also be taking College Algebra.  For those who know me, you know that math is not my thing but I need to get through this class in order to even take my science classes.  This will be interesting. Now that I am taking Algebra with a real goal in mind, I think it will be a lot easier to wrap my head around.

As you can see, all of the pieces are in place.  I haven’t really even been able to celebrate my conditional acceptance yet, just because I have been so busy wrapping up the Spring semester.   Thankfully, that is over and I’ve got two weeks off!  I don’t even know what I am going to do with myself with all of this free time I have.

Oh, I know.

HOUSE PROJECTS!

The Plight Of A College Student

There is a good possibility I may be in college forever. At least it feels like forever since I began my college education right after high school graduation in 2004. Now, it’s 2012 – and I only have an Associate’s Degree to my name. So, why has it taken me so long to finish my Bachelors?  Well, for one – I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I’ve bounced around to so many different degree options over the years. Psychology, Social Work, Criminology, Banking, Business Administration, and the list goes on. All of those changes have definitely kept be back from finishing when I should. But so did working a full time job, getting married, and buying a house too. Not to mention my constant battle against College Algebra.  Thus beings my plight.

Back in Fall, I decided taking 5 classes was a good idea to jump start myself and get through the last 15 credits as quick as possible. It was all well and good until I realized there was no way I was going to get through College Algebra.  Math has never been my strong subject. To the point that I’ve had to repeat many math classes since I started college. Towards the end of that fateful Fall semester, it was painfully obvious that I was going to fall victim to algebra. By the time December rolled around, I had finished off with 3 A’s, 1 B, and an F. You can guess which class was the F. I was so burnt out that I didn’t sign up for classes in the Spring.

Now, here we are and it’s a week before Summer classes begin. I had signed up for the dreaded College Algebra again with full intentions of taking the bull by the horns and getting through this dang class. There is this pesky little rule that says once you are attempting a class a third time, the school will charge you out of state tuition. Translation: Over 1,000 dollars for one class!  Um…no. I’m not paying that much money for a class there is a good change I won’t even pass.  (I’m telling you, I’m really bad at math.)  Can’t I just get a business related degree without taking any more math classes?  Oh, wait…I can?  Management and Organizational Leadership?   Yeah sure, that’ sounds great.  Sign me up.

And here I am days before the Summer semester with a new major, and two classes beginning. The start of two classes also means that I need to get text books – FAST!  The real killer when attention college really is the textbooks. You expect to pay a lot of tuition since it pays for the property, the teachers, the tools, the website and well, everything.  But textbooks?  That just seems like all profit to me.  Publisher’s just keep on putting out new books every year, which makes it so hard to buy books used.  There has to be a better way.

There is.   And I found it, and couldn’t be more happy!

The answer to my textbook problems, and it may be your answer too – is renting textbooks! What better place to rent textbooks than CampusBookRentals.com?  The cool thing about Campus Book Rentals is that they offer free shipping both ways.  There is nothing I hate more than paying for shipping, especially when you are sending something back.  So that is definitely a perk in my book.  Another great feature of the site is the fact that you can choose your due date.   Sooo nice because schools run different semester dates.

And here is a true testament of the price difference.  To buy one of my textbooks through the school, it would have been 63.50.  But to rent it through CampusBookRentals.com,  for a semester it’s less than 25 dollars!  Love that kind of savings especially since I’m not eligible for all that much financial aid since  Andrew and I apparently make too much money.  (Which is a complete joke, by the way)

It’s safe to say with my new major, and new source for textbooks – I will most certainly taking this semester and the next 4 by storm!

Counting down til December 2013 when I can finally say that I am a college graduate! :-)
