This time of the year makes me want to throw on my worst clothes, my old nasty sneakers and get to doing yard work. On Easter Sunday, Andrew and I walked three months though all the little side streets of our downtown area. During our walk, we were inspired and also extremely jealous of everyone’s curb appeal. By the time we got back to the house, I was so motivated to clean up our own landscaping. So motivated that I failed to take any before photos. See how I am? The main concern was pulling up weeds that have started growing in the flower beds near the front entry way. Last year, we had planted lavender bushes but sadly they didn’t take. We tried to save them, but ultimately had to rip them out about 9 months after planting them. Since then, we’ve let the area fall apart. Weeds and leaves galore. After seeing so many beautiful landscapes in our area, I knew it was time to finally clean up those two beds and decide on planting something there. Especially since we know getting groundcover for the front yard will be long down the road, we could at least get some flowers near the entry way!
We have a few things we’d definitely like to hide with whatever our plant choice will be. For one, we have gas meter as well plumbing very visible when you are at the front door. Not only that, we’d really like to hide the open block foundation to make the house look a little more put together.
So, what to get? We’re dealing with a partially shaded area and we’d like the bushes to at least grow 2-3 ft tall to cover the blocks of our foundation. One plant that is really catching my eye is a bush found in the front yard of a house down the street from me. We walk by it every day, and I want to ask them what it is SO BAD but no one is ever outside.
I took these pictures with my phone, so ignore the quality. But don’t you think this would look amazing in those beds? The contrast of the purple and the green would look stellar! I’m hoping that one of these days we will track down this plant, because I WANT IT.
